City leaders announced this week that Port Wentworth will host its fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. behind City Hall, located at 7224 GA-21. Organizers say the event is free and open to the public.
The celebration will feature food trucks, vendors, historical storytelling, a children’s area, and several live performances throughout the evening. During the celebration, the City of Port Wentworth will present the 2026 Frances Bright Johnson Humanitarian Award to Georgia State Senator Derek Mallow. The award honors the legacy of Frances Bright Johnson, a local civil rights and community leader recognized for her service through organizations including the NAACP and YMCA.
Event founder and Port Wentworth Councilman Rufus Bright said the celebration continues to grow by bringing the community together. Mallow, who represents Georgia Senate District 2, has also spent years supporting youth-focused programs throughout the Savannah area.
City officials say the celebration is intended to honor Juneteenth’s historical significance while creating a space for education, reflection, and community connection.
