Convicted felon with lengthy criminal history now charged with murder, firearm offenses in Hwy 204 shooting death

SAVANNAH, Ga. — A Savannah man with a history of felony convictions and repeated arrests on firearm charges was re-arrested in late July and officially charged with murder, according to jail and court records and information from the Chatham County Police Department.

Jamond Reid was re-arrested on murder charges July 24, 2026, and now his case is moving through the system. He is a convicted felon, having previously been convicted of aggravated assault in 2022.

Hwy. 204 murder

Tre’Von Moorer was shot and killed on July 25, 2024, on Highway 204 near Interstate 95. Moorer was driving a vehicle that was ambushed while stopped at a traffic light around 2 p.m., according to Chatham County Police. The Chatham County Coroner’s Office confirmed Moorer died at the hospital following the shooting.

His family tells us he jumped to the backseat when his car was surrounded by 3 men and shielded his 2 young daughters, saving their lives.

Eyewitnesses recounted Moorer jumping from his vehicle before collapsing onto the busy highway.

Their family is not from Savannah, and say Moorer did not know these suspects, but that it was a case of mistaken identity.

Westbound Highway 204 was closed for hours as Chatham County Police investigated that day.

According to Chatham County Police, Reid was first arrested for Moorer’s murder in August 2025 while already incarcerated at the Chatham County Jail on aggravated assault charges stemming from a March 18, 2025 shooting at Westlake Apartments.

He was served with an arrest warrant at that time-- charging him with murder and 2 counts of aggravated assault in connection with Moorer’s death.

Reid was later released from the detention center on bond for the aggravated assault charge stemming from the Westlake shooting. The murder warrant, however, was never processed through the judicial system.

Chatham County Police said in a statement:

Jamond Reid was incarcerated in the Chatham County Detention Center for aggravated assault charges stemming from the March 18, 2025, Westlake shooting when he was served with an arrest warrant charging him with murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the death of Tre’Von Moorer who was shot and killed inside his vehicle on Hwy. 204.

Reid was later released from the Detention Center on bond for the aggravated assault charge stemming from the Westlake shooting.

However, Reid did not go through the judicial process for the Hwy. 204 murder charge. He never received an initial appearance or preliminary hearing. That is why the murder warrant relating to the Hwy. 204 homicide was re-issued last month when Reid was taken into custody by the Savannah Police Department in an unrelated incident.

Reid’s brother, Jatwone Reid, was also charged for Moorer’s murder. Jatwone was arrested too in August 2025 and charged with one count of murder and aggravated assault in connection with the same Hwy. 204 case.

A third suspect, 23-year-old Tyree King, was charged with aggravated assault and murder in August of 2025, and booked into jail. Chatham County Police previously stated that an additional suspect died in another shooting before warrants could be served on him.

Westlake Apartments shooting

Jamond Reid is also a suspect in a March 2025 shooting at Westlake Apartments that left five people injured. Additional suspects were charged in connection with that case, according to Chatham County Police.

July 24, 2026 arrest

Jail records show Reid faces the following charges from his most recent arrest:

• Fleeing police
• Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
• Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
• Aggravated assault
• Murder

He was on probation at the time of both shootings. A probation violation case connected to the July 24, 2026 arrest remains open, according to court records.

On Aug. 12, 2026, a grand jury indicted Reid on charges of fleeing police and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon stemming from the July 24th arrest.

Probation violations

Court records show Reid was sentenced to 10 years of probation beginning in June 2024.

Moorer’s shooting death happened 1 month later.

According to those records, he is alleged to have since violated that probation in two ways: he was found in possession of a firearm more than once, which he is prohibited from having, and he is alleged to have violated the law — a separate condition of his probation.

Prior arrest history

Court and jail records show a pattern of arrests in the years leading up to the July 2026 incident:

• July 2026 — Arrested on eluding police, possession of firearm by convicted felon. Murder warrant re-issued.
• August 2025 — Served warrants for Hwy. 204 homicide while in jail.
• March 2025 — Westlake shooting happens. Arrested in May for this on possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, probation violation. Remained in jail until December 2025 and was granted bond. Probation violation was later dismissed citing lack of evidence.
• July 2024 — Hwy. 204 homicide happens.
• June 2024 — Began 10-year probation sentence.
• February 2024 — Charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Remained in jail until June 2024, released on time served.
• December 2023 — Georgia Dept. of Corrections records show he began a prison sentence there, and was there for 2 months, until February 2024.
• September 2023 — Arrested on possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, parole violation. Remained in jail until December 2023, and was transferred to prison.
• September 2022 — Served prison time according to the Georgia Dept. of Corrections. He was there until June 2023.

As of publication, he is still in custody at the Chatham County jail on no bond. We will follow this homicide case as it makes its way through the courts.
