Georgia Power postpones Whitemarsh Island maintenance outage ahead of extreme heat

WHITEMARSH ISLAND, Ga. — Georgia Power announced it has postponed a planned maintenance outage on Whitemarsh Island that was originally scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17.
The utility company made the decision due to anticipated heat index warnings. Monday has already been declared a WTOC First Alert Weather Day because of the forecast extreme temperatures.
Utility officials said the maintenance work will be rescheduled once local temperatures return to normal levels. Affected customers were notified of the postponement Thursday afternoon.
According to Georgia Power, while planned outages are a routine part of grid maintenance to ensure long-term reliability, the company is committed to minimizing disruptions during dangerous weather conditions.
