Pooler secures park trail grant

POOLER, Ga. (WTOC) -The City of Pooler has secured a major state grant to fund the design of a new trail system connecting two of the city’s popular parks, local officials announced.

Mayor Karen Williams announced the award in a Facebook post Thursday night, stating the city received $800,000.00 through a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) grant for the conceptual design of the Pooler Park-to-Park Trail Project. The funding agreement includes an 80/20 local match, meaning the city will contribute a 20 percent financial match to unlock the state funds.

The project aims to design a safe and connected trail linking Roger Street Park and the Pooler Recreation Park, which officials say will enhance outdoor recreation and accessibility for both residents and visitors.

“This important investment marks a significant milestone as we work to create a safe and connected trail linking Roger Street Park and the Pooler Recreation Park, enhancing recreational opportunities and improving connectivity for residents and visitors alike,” Williams said on Facebook.

Once the conceptual design phase is complete, the city plans to submit a follow-up grant application to secure state funding for the actual installation and construction of the trail system.

Williams thanked the city’s administrative staff for their work in securing the highly competitive transportation grant.

“Their efforts continue to bring meaningful improvements to Pooler, and we look forward to seeing this exciting project move forward,” Williams said.
