Local woman named one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Georgia Engineering

by Dawn Baker

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Congratulations to Cecilia Tran Arango for being named one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Georgia Engineering for the second time!

She joined WTOC’s Dawn Baker for Welcome to our Community to talk more about the honor and how the engineering industry has opened up to women through the years.

Arango is a Principal and Director of Communications at Thomas & Hutton. She has worked there for the last 24 years.

About three years ago, she says the company changed the rules so that she could become a principal shareholder. She’s deeply honored for the opportunity. She says she owes it all to being fortunate to work at the company and be surrounded by great mentors and teachers.

Marketing for architecture and construction firms was unheard of and considered unethical until the 1970’s.

Back then, people believe you let your work speak for yourself. Times have changed partly due to many STEM and STEAM programs that target girls and women.

She’s now the new president of the Society of Marketing Professional Services. Their mission is to engage, inspire, and empower architecture, engineering and construction professionals for leadership and lifelong learning.
