Union Mission opens new resource center for people experiencing homelessness in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Union Mission hosted a ribbon cutting Friday for Emmaus, a new 8,200 square-foot resource center for the unhoused community in Savannah.

The facility, taking around two years to complete, was built with the help of community partnerships including Parker’s Kitchen, SCAD SERVE, Gulfstream, American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, Savannah Technical College, and many other donors.

These individual organizations are also offering services at the resource center, including:

Goodwill Industries: Job readiness, classes and resume support.

J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care: Medical care in two dedicated exam rooms, five days a week.

Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless: Housing assessments and placement support.

Local barber & Salon Professionals: Dignity-focused services including haircuts and washes.

American Red Cross: Generator support for emergencies

Savannah Technical College: Workforce training programs

The 8,200-square-foot Emmaus House Resource Center brings meals, laundry, hygiene, health care, job training and housing help all under one roof. SCAD students from the 2025 SCAD SERVE Design for Good course took to designing the facility, focusing on presenting a welcoming environment that offers comfort, dignity and human connection.

Union Mission said the center can serve up to 200 people a day.

“The journey we had building this building was very exciting. We did it in less than two years, from purchasing the building to getting the construction done and we’re just so excited to have an 8,200-square-foot facility that I truly think is going to be a game changer,” Traynor said.

Emmaus House is located at 127 Fahm Street and will open to the public on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, operating six days a week.
