Collins campaigns in Savannah ahead of Georgia Senate runoff

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Friday marks the last day for early voting before Tuesday’s Primary Runoff election in Georgia, with one of the most closely watched races being the Republican contest for U.S. Senate.

Congressman Mike Collins is facing Derek Dooley in the GOP runoff. Collins made campaign stops around the area Friday, including a Thursday night event in downtown Savannah.

Collins told supporters he will fight for Georgians by cutting regulations to help businesses and will champion the Georgia Ports when it comes to deepening the Savannah Harbor.

“We also got the money for the Savannah Port out here gotten the study paid for because it’s going to be necessary if we are going to compete for these megaships coming in, that they are going to be able to get to our ports,” Collins said. “So we need to make sure the depth is there, and make sure the Army Corps of Engineers, I think that is the biggest holdup because they will study things forever, and never do anything.”

The winner of the GOP runoff will face Sen. Jon Ossoff in November.
