SC trooper dies days after being hit by box truck
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina State Trooper hit by a box truck last weekend in Orangeburg County has died.
Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks passed away Wednesday night, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Ricks was hit by a truck Sunday night after a traffic stop on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County.
Ricks had been in critical condition at a North Charleston hospital since the crash.

SCDPS said Ricks was a 2023 graduate of the South Carolina Highway Patrol academy and served with Troop 7 in Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.
“This is a devastating loss for his family, for those who worked alongside him in Troop Seven and the entire Highway Patrol and DPS family. Our deepest condolences go to his wife and family as they navigate this immense loss,” the agency said.
Ricks’ wife, Jade, also provided the following statement to WIS early Thursday:
“Marrying him was the best decision I have ever made in my lifetime. There is no one better for me than him. We were truly meant to be and my heart will always belong to him.”

ARREST MADE
The alleged driver of the box truck, 45-year-old Anthony Aydlette, was arrested after the crash and charged with driving under suspension. He was granted bond during a hearing on Monday, but it was noted that more charges could be pending as the investigation continues.
The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, with assistance from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s Reconstruction Unit.
