Savannah welcomes 40 students from around the world

SAVANNAH , Ga. (WTOC) - Forty college students representing 20 countries gathered in historic downtown Savannah this weekend to begin a year of studying and living in Georgia.
The students attended the Georgia Rotary Student Program’s Conclave at The DeSoto Hotel, marking the start of their journey as members of the 2026–2027 GRSP class.
During the orientation, the students met one another and connected with their Rotarian sponsors and host families. They also learned about the program and the expectations for living in the United States during the academic year.
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson welcomed the students to the city.
The weekend concludes Saturday evening with a “Cabaret” featuring traditional clothing, cultural presentations and musical performances by the students.
Founded in 1946, GRSP seeks to promote international peace through cultural understanding. The program has hosted nearly 4,000 students from 113 countries.
The students will return to Savannah in October for the Hue Thomas Jr. GRSP Weekend.
