Little Hunting Island/Boneyard Beach temporarily closed due to bridge safety, officials announce

BEAUFORT COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Little Hunting Island, also known as Boneyard Beach, will be temporarily closed because of safety concerns with the bridge leading to the area, officials announced on social media Wednesday afternoon.
“Tides have been higher than normal and are expected to remain elevated through the remainder of the week. The increased water levels have created a large drop-off at the end of the bridge near the beach access,” wrote Friends of Hunting Island State Park, Inc. in a social media post.
Officials also said there is a safety concern for guests who access the beach at low tide and may be unable to safely return across the bridge as the tide rises.
The bridge will remain closed for the rest of the week. Officials said the beginning of the bridge will be boarded and posted with signage indicating the closure.
