Congressman seeks to unseat Sen. Jon Ossoff as midterm election nears

by Elizabeth Rawlins

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Congressman Mike Collins is running for U.S. Senate, seeking to unseat Sen. Jon Ossoff.

Collins was first elected to Congress in 2022, representing Georgia’s 10th District.

Economy and Iran

As voters head to the polls, they are focused on issues including the economy, gas prices and the war in Iran.

When asked what success looks like regarding the war in Iran and whether it is the solution to high gas prices, Collins said gas prices are high and that he is in the trucking business and aware of that fact.

“What the administration is going to do is make sure Iran does not have nuclear weapons,” Collins said. “It’s good we are putting an end to this so that the next generation does not have to deal with it.”

Record in the House

After four years in the House of Representatives, Collins is reminding voters of his record.

He points to the Laken Riley Act, which he said was the first bill signed by President Trump in his second term.

When asked why Georgia voters should send him from the House to the Senate, Collins said, “When you look at our two records, it’s obvious that I’ve been delivering for the state of Georgia vs. my opponent, Jon Ossoff.”

First-year priorities

Collins said his priority the first year is the same as what he is doing now.

“Make sure that the federal government continue to get regulations off the back of people, make sure that we get that debt down,” Collins said. “It’s the number one threat to this country right now.”
