SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Night two of the SCAD Film Festival wrapped up Sunday at Trustees Theater on Broughton Street. A SCAD spokesperson said crowds began forming at 2 p.m., more than three hours before anyone was set to step onto the red carpet.

Rising Star Director Award

Jordan Firstman received the Rising Star Director Award for his upcoming film “Club Kid.” Firstman is the writer, director and star of the film, which tells the story of a club promoter who has to unexpectedly raise a 10-year-old son he never knew he had.

Firstman said he sees a lot of friends his age feeling like they should be adults but still not knowing how, and that the movie speaks to that confusion.

“It doesn’t prescribe any real messaging, it’s like, it’s okay to be lost, it’s okay to be where you are, and it’s okay to change, and you can change at any moment. And like, people can come into your life and change you, and to not be scared of that,” said Jordan Firstman, Rising Star Director Award recipient, “Club Kid.”

Other honorees

Jessica Lange received the Lifetime Achievement Award. The cast of “The Mosquito Bowl” received the Ensemble Award.

Forgotten Island cast and crew visit Savannah

The creators and lead actress from DreamWorks’ newest release, “Forgotten Island,” made a stop in Savannah. The animated film tells the story of two friends trapped on a mystical island, figuring out how to escape before losing all memory of each other.

“In this digital day and age everybody, I feel like everybody has become so individualistic and has put such an importance on optics over real life, I think it’s important to tell a story that centers friendship more than any other relationship,” said Liza Soberano, who plays Raissa in “Forgotten Island.”

Writer and director Joel Crawford said he sees more loneliness in the world now than ever.

“When we set out we were like we are going to tell a story that really celebrates the power of friendship, not just on a superficial level, but that shows how badly as human beings we need connections, experiences,” said Joel Crawford, director and writer, “Forgotten Island.”

What’s next

The SCAD Film Festival continues for six more days. Actor Paul Bettany, known for playing Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is scheduled to appear on the red carpet Monday, among others.
