Kemp orders flags at half-staff for 25th anniversary of 9/11 attacks

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Gov. Brian Kemp has ordered flags at half-staff on Friday to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

“Tomorrow we mark 25 years since the horrific attacks of 9/11,” Kemp wrote in a social media post Thursday. “In memory of the lives taken from us and in recognition of the heroic first responders, flags across Georgia will be lowered and a statewide moment of silence will be held to honor their impact and loss.”

Kemp issued an executive order for U.S. and state flags to be lowered on all state buildings and grounds Friday.

A moment of silence will be observed at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center, the order says.
