Historic Beach Institute launches new ‘Beach Speaks’ lecture series

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The historic Beach Institute African-American Cultural Center said it’s launching a new lecture series this summer called “Beach Speaks.”

The inaugural event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Beach Institute (502 East Harris Street).

Organizers have opened a Call for Speakers, inviting local residents, historians, creators, and advocates to pitch presentations centered on African American history, art, and regional culture.

Speaker and talk guidelines

• Format: Selected presenters must deliver a deeply impactful, well-formed idea in 12 minutes or less.
• Rules: Talks must be strictly non-commercial and non-partisan, focusing entirely on ideas worth spreading rather than business pitches or political rhetoric.
• How to apply: Interested speakers can submit their concepts online via the digital application portal.

Ticket information

A limited number of early-registration tickets are available for $25. Tickets cover session access, a catered lowcountry lunch, afternoon breakout tracks, and a networking reception.

Following the event, the live presentations will be professionally filmed and archived online.
