Obama, now Harris: Democrats deploy star power in Georgia’s final stretch

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — For the second day in a row, Democrats in Georgia are getting up close and personal attention from one of their party’s most recognizable figures.
On Wednesday, former President Barack Obama was in town for a campaign appearance with Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial hopeful Keisha Lance Bottoms.
On Thursday and Friday, former Vice President Kamala Harris is in Atlanta, first hosting a community town hall with NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson and then headlining a Fulton County Democrats’ fundraising event on Friday night.
Early voting ends Friday in Georgia with election day Nov. 3, 2026.
Ossoff’s seat is being seen as crucial by national Democrats to keeping a close margin with Republicans in the U.S. Senate. He is being challenged by U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, who has closely aligned himself President Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Bottoms is hoping to become the nation’s first Black female governor in history, but is at a huge fundraising disadvantage when compared to her opponent, Republican Rick Jackson.
