Community shares input on plans for new Windsor Forest Elementary

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Windsor Forest Elementary School could soon get a new building, but school district leaders want community input before finalizing the plans.
The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System says the school, located on Briarcliff Circle, has structural issues related to its age.
An assessment also identified problems with the building’s plumbing, electrical systems and heating, ventilation and air conditioning, or HVAC.
Rather than continue repairing the aging facility, the district plans to build a new school.
Families and community members gathered Thursday to review preliminary plans and share their preferences for the new building’s design.
Ross Cairney, the district’s executive director of capital programs and maintenance, said community feedback will help guide decisions about the school’s appearance.
“Tell me your brick color. Your favorite brick color for the area. Do you like round columns, square columns? Do you like an arch or a 90-degree entry? A more modern look? Do you like something more traditional looking?” Cairney said. “So we like to get input from the community members.”
The district estimates the project will take about two years, with the new school expected to be ready for students by summer 2029.
During construction, students will relocate to a temporary campus at Largo.
