Bulloch County sets timeline for two bridge replacements

by Shakuria Smith

BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Bulloch County commissioners have approved separate contracts for bridge projects on GW Oliver Road and Cypress Lake Road.

The drainage pipes beneath GW Oliver Road will be replaced with a bridge after the road was damaged during Hurricane Debby in 2024. Most of the project will be funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency.

The Cypress Lake Road bridge will be replaced after its supporting structure was damaged in May 2025. County officials said a pickup truck went off the bridge and struck a wooden pylon and steel beam.

Most of the Cypress Lake Road project will be funded through the Georgia Department of Transportation. Local funding for both projects will come from the county’s Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.

County officials expect both bridges to be completed and the roads to reopen around August 2027, weather permitting.
