World’s largest peace run brings international torch relay to Savannah
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - An international torch relay promoting peace and unity is making its way through Savannah.
The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run will arrive Monday, April 27, in the late afternoon.
The team, made up of runners from eight countries, is traveling across all 50 states during a four-month journey honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Carrying a symbolic torch, runners meet with schools and community groups, encouraging people to share their hopes for peace.
The relay began in New York City and will cover more than 10,000 miles nationwide.
While in Savannah, the group will stay overnight at Spacious Skies Campground – Savannah Oaks on Fort Argyle Road.
They will depart April 28, running 67 miles to Jesup while passing the torch along local roads.
Founded in 1987, the Peace Run has reached more than 160 countries and millions of participants worldwide.
