Tybee Island holds 23rd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Tybee Island hosted it’s 23rd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade Saturday.

The event brought hundreds of visistors and locals to celebrate down Butler Avenue. The parade included floats from local businesses, Irish dancers, race cars, and our very own WTOC Storm Chaser.

“I was surprised at how quickly it got crowded early down here today. People were putting their chairs out on Butler last night like they do in downtown Savannah, so it’s a really big day for us down here. And much needed, we’ve had a cold winter, not a lot of visitors, and we’re ready for our businesses to get back in shape again,” said Tybee Island Mayor Brian West.

“Everybody’s just having a good time, we’re mingling, we’re celebrating the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day. Community engagement is everything. We’re out here, we’re talking to the community, we’re engaging with the community. Today is really about celebration so that engagement today is strictly about celebration,” said Chatham County Sheriff Richard Coleman.

“You look back this way, it’s just a sea of green looking back towards the West side of the island. This is the biggest parade we’ve had so far,” said Tybee Island Mayor Brian West.
