Traffic details for inaugural Savannah Southern Half Marathon

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - There are many traffic impacts starting as early as 4 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, for the inaugural Savannah Southern Half Marathon that will go through the heart of downtown.

According to the Savannah Southern Half Marathon website, street closures will be implemented on a rolling basis. Streets will open as runners go by.

They wrote that all streets are scheduled to be reopened no later than 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area and course if possible. Savannah Police Department will allow vehicle traffic through intersections during the race when the course is clear of runners.

Drivers are encouraged to be patient with officers directing traffic and follow all directions for the safety of runners and pedestrians. Vehicles will not be towed along the route.

The half marathon route will begin on the north end of Forsyth Park at 7 a.m. The Forsyth Farmers Market will not be impacted by the half marathon.

Drayton St. will close to vehicle traffic at 4 a.m. for the marathon infrastructure buildout. Drayton St. will reopen to traffic by 8 a.m.

From Drayton, the route will turn west on Gaston and proceed north on Bull St., turn west on Bryan St. and then south on Montgomery crossing over to Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd before heading out Gwinnet to West Savannah. The second portion of the route will largely be in the Ardsley Park neighborhood with the finish line in Daffin Park.
