South Carolina activates emergency hotline as dangerous cold arrives

by Christopher Teuton

SOUTH CAROLINA (WTOC) - Dangerous cold temperatures will grip the region this week, prompting First Alert Weather Days for Tuesday and Sunday as wind chills drop into the teens.

Statewide cold temperatures have prompted South Carolina to activate its winter weather emergency hotline. The service provides official information about shelter locations, road conditions, and recommended safety precautions.

South Carolina residents can call 1-866-246-0133 for assistance. Operations staff are standing by 24 hours a day to answer questions about the state’s winter weather response.

The hotline offers critical resources for people who may need shelter or information about staying safe during the dangerous cold snap.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions during the cold weather, including dressing in layers, limiting time outdoors, and checking on neighbors and family members.

Tuesday morning temperatures will fall into the low to mid-20s with wind chills making it feel like the teens. The combination of cold air and wind will create potentially dangerous conditions for anyone spending time outdoors.

Later in the week, high temperatures will only reach the 40s on Saturday before another round of bitter cold arrives. Sunday morning will bring widespread temperatures in the 20s with dry conditions and wind chills returning to the teens during early morning hours.
