Savannah families dig into hands-on gardening project through Rotary partnership
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Families across Savannah are getting their hands in the dirt and learning how to grow their own food through a new community partnership.
Metro Savannah Rotary teamed up with Loop It Up Savannah to host a hands-on gardening project focused on food education and family engagement.
During the event, volunteers worked alongside students and their families to build and plant personalized grow bags. Each family received the tools and guidance needed to start a small home garden and took their planted bags home to continue growing fresh produce.
Each grow bag included soil, a vegetable seedling, a companion flower, and additional seeds.
Organizers said the goal was to introduce families to the basics of gardening while creating a shared learning experience.
“This project is about more than gardening. It’s about connection, education, and sustainability,” a Rotary representative said.
Leaders said the initiative helps families build confidence in growing their own food while promoting healthier habits and stronger connections at home.
