Georgia DOT seeks rural communities’ input on Statewide Transportation Improvement Program

by Joe Hennessy

JESUP, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Transportation is asking Georgians to weigh in on a draft four-year road and transit plan during a public comment period that runs through August 15, 2026.

Georgia DOT says projects are selected based on state and federal priorities, available funding, technical analysis, and feedback from local and regional partners—along with public input. The STIP being drafted now will guide spending decisions for the 2027–2030 cycle.

“Every three years, Georgia DOT works with residents, local governments and stakeholders to build the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP)—a blueprint for transportation and capital projects across the state,“ they wrote. ”The plan covers federally funded projects statewide, except for projects inside Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) areas, which are typically centered around larger cities."

In District 5, the meeting is scheduled for July 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Wayne County Library, 759 Sunset Blvd., Jesup, GA 31545.

Residents can review the draft plan and submit feedback before the comment period closes on August 15.
