SCCPSS talks improving building safety
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah-Chatham County Public School leaders are trying to figure out a better way to deal with repairs and keep students safe while learning.
Tuesday, the board of education started a conversation about restructuring staff to better meet the needs of work orders in schools.
They showed photos of the conditions inside of some schools.
They say leaks and damage in buildings can be a safety hazard for students.
In a presentation, an administrator talked about the possibility of allocating money to support staff who would oversee work requests and repair needs.
“We can work with maintenance to elevate that this is an urgent issue. Maintenance can respond so the portfolio manager and the on-site facility manager now will be empowered to say this is not our standard, and that if we need maintenance we can call and make this an urgent matter that they will quickly address,” said Chief Operating Officer of Operations and Facilities, Megan Davidson.
Davidson said this restructuring would consist of using and training current staff and could cost about $850,000 to implement.
