Locals celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Dance, song and food are three ways the Metropolitan Savannah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce brought people together Saturday.
The bilingual brunch event honored National Hispanic Heritage Month.
“We wanted to allow the community to celebrate.”
Organizers say they wanted to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
This comes after the chamber’s annual parade and festival was cancelled this year amid recent ICE activity in the area.

“I feel so sad for my community that today we had to be here instead of like being on the streets like the last couple of years that we’ve been doing it when we were so proud of who we had become, and we are.”
“We’re going to have food just like in the festival. We’re going to have music, just like in the festival. We’re going to have happy people and dancing, and we will have dancing.”
Members of the Hispanic community in Savannah and beyond, gathered to celebrate culture and community.
