SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - We are continuing to cover a shooting last Saturday that left a Savannah man killed.

Officers there tried CPR, but it was too late.

SEE: SPD gives new details on fatal shooting at Rogers St. Saturday night

WTOC went back to the scene earlier Saturday with the victim’s family at a prayer vigil in his honor.

At only 26 years old Frederick Hampton, Jr. was shot and killed last week on Rogers Street.

Hampton’s family held a prayer vigil in remembrance for him, shocked and heartbroken over his death.

“His life was cut short a week ago and we wanted to come back to the crime scene in order to remember him,” said aunt, Vanessa Nelson.

Family came together at the corner to share kind words, light candles, and sing songs in his honor.

They said Frederick was a kind soul and they just want to lay him to rest.

“So sweet, so energetic, very humble and grew up to be like a gentle giant like everybody else said,” said aunt, Sophia Hardy.

Hampton’s aunt passionately told us how important it is to hold your family close.

“Love on each other because you never know the day or the hour that God is going to decide to call you home. So whatever y’all could do just love, please just love on one another,” said Hardy.

The Savannah Police Department has made no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

The coroner’s office tells us that an autopsy has been scheduled but no further information has been released.
