Republican Clay Fuller elected to fill Marjorie Taylor Greene’s unexpired House term
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Clay Fuller, who was endorsed earlier this year by President Donald Trump in his campaign to fill out Marjorie Taylor Greene’s unexpired term in Congress, is on his way to Washington.
On Tuesday, in a runoff against Democrat Shawn Harris, the former Lookout Mountain district attorney was elected to represent northwest Georgia’s 14th congressional district on Capitol Hill.
According to the unofficial results, Fuller received 72.304 votes to Harris’ 57,030 as of 10:33 p.m.
In a race that initially drew more than 20 candidates, Harris and Fuller finished as the top two contenders in the March 10 special election, with Harris beating out Fuller in the heavily Republican district. Harris got 37.33% of the vote, and Fuller got 34.87%, according to the results.
Fuller was a White House fellow in the first Trump administration and is a lieutenant colonel in the Georgia Air National Guard. He finished fourth in the 2020 Republican primary that Greene won before becoming a district attorney.
“I’m going to go and fight for you, and just like President Trump said, I will never let you down,” Fuller told supporters after his win Tuesday night.

On Nov. 21, Greene — who was elected to the northwest Georgia in 2020 and overwhelmingly re-elected since — said she was resigning over her disillusionment with the nation’s current political climate, stemming from a recent political split with Trump.
With so many candidates in the race, the April 7 runoff was virtually assured. Fuller will now officially fill out the remainder of Greene’s congressional term through next January.
But if Fuller wants to run for reelection in Georgia’s nationally watched 2026 midterms, he will have to run in the May 19 statewide primary in a district that has already drawn Harris on the Democratic side and a slew of other Republicans, including Brian Stover, Star Black, Thomas Gray, Timothy Brown, Colton Moore, Eric Cunningham, Jim Tully, Reagan Box and Nicky Lama.
“I own it,” Harris said of his loss Tuesday night. “We’re going to learn from it, we’re going to get better, and then come November our ground game will be even better, and we will win this election in November.”
Harris added, “They should never have to spend money on a ruby-red district. That tells you that things are changing here in northwest Georgia.”
If a runoff is needed for the primary, it will be held on June 16.

Then, it’s on to the Nov. 3 general election, whose winner will serve in Congress for a full two-year term. A Dec. 1 runoff will happen if needed.
