Postal workers rally in Savannah over contract dispute
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -Thousands of postal workers across the country rallied Sunday to demand fair treatment from the United States Postal Service, including in Savannah.
Members of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Local Branch 578, gathered outside the post office on Fahm Street to protest and call attention to ongoing contract negotiations.
The union is seeking a contract that includes higher wages for all employees, not just those with decades of service at USPS.
Letter carriers said the contract dispute extends beyond postal workers, arguing the outcome will affect everyone who receives mail.
“That’s what our goal is — to get these new people in here, to get them to stay. And then that plays into the public getting the first-class service that they deserve,” said Bobby Moore, vice president of NALC Branch 578.
The union said competitive wages are essential to retaining staff and maintaining the quality of mail service the public depends on.
