2 injured in shooting near Mixon Street in Yemassee

YEMASSEE, Sc. (WTOC) - The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office said they are assisting the Yemassee Police Department for a shooting on Mixon Street.

According to YPD, they were on scene in the Mixon St. and Zahler Street area.

“Officers initially responded to a report involving a female victim who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound. After officers secured and cleared the residence, a second victim, a male, was discovered with a gunshot wound,” they wrote.

SLED Crime Scene personnel and Regional Agents are responding to assist with the investigation, according to YPD.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that two people were shot at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23.

The incident appears to be isolated at this time.

“A significant law enforcement presence remains in the area as deputies investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” they wrote. “Residents are asked to avoid the immediate area to allow law enforcement and emergency personnel to safely respond.”
