Beaufort County head-on crash leaves one dead

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — A driver died after a head-on collision on Laurel Bay Road on Aug. 22, according to Master Trooper William H. Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection with Shanklin Road, Bennett said.

How the crash happened

A 2015 Nissan sedan was traveling east on Laurel Bay Road and a 2018 Ford sedan was traveling west on Laurel Bay Road when the two vehicles struck head-on near the intersection with Shanklin Road, Bennett said.

Driver killed at scene

The driver of the Nissan was the only person in the vehicle and died at the scene as a result of injuries, Bennett said. Information on the deceased can be obtained from the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.

Second driver hospitalized

The driver of the Ford was the only occupant of that vehicle and was transported by EMS for injuries, Bennett said.

No additional details on the drivers conditions have been released.

The collision is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
