Port Wentworth murder suspect granted bond ahead of trial, Victim’s family ‘devastated and angry’

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Savannah man accused of murder was granted bond, and the family members of the victim are outraged. They are speaking only with WTOC about the judge’s decision. They say they are ‘heartbroken, angry, and in disbelief’.

According to the Small family, the man who murdered their loved one will once again be out of jail, living his life, while their family member was taken from his seven children.

“All I say is God — God knows exactly what happened, and He will have the final say,” said Alonda Bynoe, Antwan’s sister.

Bynoe is the sister of 49-year-old Antwan Small. He was the man who police and prosecutors say was shot and killed in front of his grandmother and 6-year-old daughter back in November on Saussy Road in Port Wentworth.

“Since my son passed away, I’ve been in and out of the hospital. I haven’t been doing well at all because he has taken my oldest, only son from me,” said Sandy Early, Antwan’s mom.

Arrested the following day after the shooting was 47-year-old Frederic Green, the alleged boyfriend of Small’s ex-wife.

“I hope that they file charges against her, because none of this would have happened if it weren’t for her. She’s in the middle of everything,” said Brenda Brown, Antwan’s aunt.

Brown continued, “Because Twan didn’t know him, and he didn’t know Twan. So you tell me how that happened and what they were arguing for... My question is, what could you have said to him to do what he did?”

Green was tracked down 12 hours away in Missouri, where police arrested him after a high-speed chase.

“He’s a risk, and I don’t trust him. If anybody has all this good stuff that they say about him and everything, then all of a sudden you do this — this is who you really are,” said Brown.

Green was extradited back to Chatham County in late March and has been in jail ever since — until last Thursday, when a judge granted him bond because he wasn’t indicted within a 90-day window.

“He will reap what he sows. That’s exactly how I feel about it. I’m going to continue to pray, continue to move forward, and I’m not going to stress and worry about it because Frederic will have his day in this life or the next,” said Bynoe.

This suspect was indicted on multiple charges in late June. Including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

“For everybody who wrote a letter for him and said how honorable he is — he’s a devil in sheep’s clothing,” said Bynoe.

“He’s able to see his family, his children, and able to speak to anybody he wants to speak to. My son can’t,” said Early.

He petitioned for a bond in recent weeks. His case received multiple letters of support from former colleagues, his ex-wife, his daughters, and other friends.

Most of the character letters written on Green’s behalf referenced his past involvement in the community, advocating against gun violence.

The City of Savannah says Green was previously a Support and Outreach Coordinator of the End Gun Violence initiative.

Green is also the Former Chair of the Housing Committee and ARCS.

“So he did all that, but then turned around and did this. Yeah...” said Brown.

“How dare you? Exactly how I feel. How dare you? You’re supposed to be a mentor to other men,” said Bynoe, Antwan’s sister.

“I feel like if he ran one time, he’ll do it again,” said Early, Small’s mother.

Green is required to be on house arrest with an ankle monitor and cannot contact the Small family. Other conditions include not being allowed to drink alcohol or use drugs, along with undergoing a mental evaluation, anger management, and grief counseling. He is also not allowed to use social media or possess any firearms.

WTOC reached out to all three of Green’s attorneys. That includes Joseph Vigneri, Michael Schwartz, and Karin Kissiah. We are waiting to hear back.

The Chatham County DA’s office says the time it took for him to be extradited back to Chatham County made an impact on the indictment timeline.

His arraignment is scheduled for the 27th of this month, where he will plead guilty or not guilty.
