Ossoff-Backed Law Lowers Prices of 10 Prescription Drugs in 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTOC) - Relief at the pharmacy counter is arriving for millions of seniors in 2026.
Lower prices for 10 commonly used prescription drugs took effect Jan. 1, following legislation backed by Jon Ossoff that allows Medicare to negotiate directly with drug companies for the first time.
The law, passed in 2022, targets high-cost medications used to treat conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, blood clots, and certain cancers. A report from CNBC estimates the changes could help seniors save more than 50% on some prescriptions this year, while AARP reports seven of the 10 drugs will now cost less than $100 per month.
“The only reason Medicare was not permitted to negotiate lower drug prices is because the drug companies lobbied Congress to prevent it,” Ossoff said. “We successfully empowered Medicare to lower prescription drug prices for seniors.”
Drugs with Lower Prices in 2026
- Eliquis – blood clot prevention and treatment
- Xarelto – blood clot prevention and treatment
- Enbrel – rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis
- Entresto – heart failure
- Farxiga – diabetes, heart failure, kidney disease
- Jardiance – diabetes, heart failure, kidney disease
- Januvia – diabetes
- Fiasp and NovoLog – insulin for diabetes
- Imbruvica – blood cancers
- Stelara – psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis
The price reductions apply to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide and mark the first round of negotiated drug pricing under the new law.
