Early morning crash causes power outage in Rincon

RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) - An early morning crash caused a power outage for some in Rincon Sunday.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency crews responded to a crash on Highway 21, near the area McCall Road, in Rincon just before 6 a.m. Sunday.

Officials say a vehicle crashed into a power pole near McCall Road that caused a major outage in the area.

WTOC spoke with Georgia Power representative Joshua Peacock Sunday morning and he told us:

Early this morning a vehicle struck a power pole causing a severe outage near McCall Road in Rincon. We were able to re-route around the circuit and restore power for several thousand customers within an hour. Currently, around 400 customers remain without power. Multiple crews are on scene and are actively making repairs as safely and quickly as possible. This is a very complicated repair job due to the amount of equipment attached to and around the particular power pole that was struck. We appreciate our customers patience and urge those impacted to take precaution today with high temperatures forecasted. We estimate full restoration around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.

ECSO says the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the power pole was taken to the hospital. No word on the extent of their injuries or what caused the crash.
