Two hospitalized after crash on Tybee Island

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 7/19 AT 7:10 P.M.] The Georgia State Patrol said a GMC Yukon Denali was traveling north on Butler Avenue when they failed to maintain its lane, hit several signs, two trees, then came to rest against a house.

They said the accident happened at around 12:30 a.m. when the vehicle was heading towards 6th street.

GSP deputies arrived at the scene just after 1:55 a.m.

The driver was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Two people were taken to a hospital after a car ran off the road and hit a pedestrian crosswalk sign and two palm trees near Butler Avenue and 6th Street early Sunday morning, according to the Tybee Island Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene around 12:33 a.m. Both the driver and a passenger were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Their conditions have not been released.

Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation. WTOC has reached out to GSP for additional details.
