Spain wins 2026 FIFA World Cup; Savannah fans pack local bars to celebrate

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Spain claimed the 2026 FIFA World Cup title Sunday, defeating Argentina 1-0 on a goal by forward Ferran Torres in the 106th minute of extra time.

Local venues including Foxy Loxy, Victory North and Savannah Taphouse were packed with Spain and Argentina supporters watching the final match of the largest World Cup tournament in FIFA history.

Fans travel to Savannah for the final

Miri Litime lives in Spain but was stateside for the final match alongside Wade Shifflett. She said Victory North which she said served as a home away from home.

“I flew here all the way from Spain, and I’m so excited,” Litime said. “Obviously it doesn’t feel the same because in Spain is such a big thing so I kind of feel FOMO but I’m so excited to get to spend it with him over here.”

The couple traveled from North Carolina, saying the Savannah watch party was worth the trip.

“Between Miami and North Carolina, this was the only place that popped up that was the most popular watch party, so I’m glad to be surrounded by like minded people,” Shifflett said.

Litime said the turnout of Spanish supporters at the venue surprised her.

“So far there are a lot of Spanish supporters over here, and I wasn’t expecting that at all,” she said.

Torres breaks scoreless deadlock in extra time

The first 90 minutes of the match went scoreless before Torres broke through in the 106th minute, scoring the only goal of the game and clinching the championship for Spain — La Furia Roja, The Red Fury.

Watch parties unite fans across both sides

Fans said the atmosphere at local watch parties was less about rivalry than community, regardless of which team they supported.

“Everybody’s happy. I don’t think nobody’s mad because somebody is the other team or not. They’re just talking. They’re just friends,” said Bella, a Spain fan.

Spain now has two World Cup titles. Their last win came in 2010.
