Local businesses on Tybee Island hoping for extra push during Labor Day weekend

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end to summer, and local businesses are hoping to cash in on the extra customer boom.

It’s all hands on deck this weekend.

“I had to tell everybody, be prepared,” says Steve Farace, owner of Farace’s Finest.

As people flock to the coast to celebrate Labor Day, new businesses like Farace’s Finest have already been seeing an influx of customers, despite the rainy weather.

“Being a pizza place and football weekend as well, kickoff of college football, you know, I think that’s a pretty nice pairing,” says Farace.

Ramping up staffing and keeping ingredients stocked.

“We make all of our dough in-house, we make all of our sauces, and we do so much prep every day,” says Farace.

And from slinging dough to pouring pints...

“Family’s originally from Edinburgh. So we opened up this... I call it Scottish because I’m from there, but it’s a British pub, it’s basically comfort food at its finest,” says Gordon Card, owner of The Kelpie.

The Kelpie is another new business on Tybee, hoping to gain more attention over the busy holiday weekend—even with the wet weather.

“We were hoping for about a 10-20% increase on daily sales. Obviously, the weather’s not cooperating overly much with us thus far,” says Card

Both businesses say they’re excited for the influx of customers, as the island starts to head into the slower season.

“We see a lot of tourism and as well as getting the locals back out to show how wonderful this island is,” says Card.
