In memory of Lenton Brown, a pillar of the community

by Dawn Baker

TATTNALL COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Throughout Tattnall County, people are mourning the loss of a pillar in the community. Mr. Lenton Brown passed away last Wednesday at the age of 82.

After nearly 40 years working as an engineer for the State of California, he moved cross country to Georgia where he quickly got to work helping people in need through his E.E. Foundation.

Through his community work and the foundation, he brought joy and excitement to countless families.

Nearly 50 years ago, he started a little Easter egg hunt that grew to one of the largest in the country.

He and his team estimate they hid up to 90,000 eggs each year, but it turned into so much more than just finding eggs.

They became a tremendous resource for the community – with food, clothes, back to school supplies and toys giveaways.

The donations continued year-round. Giving back was Mr. Brown’s passion.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife and children. There will be a visitation service tomorrow, Friday, August 29th, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Low Country Cremation & Burial in Reidsville.

The Funeral Service is Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Reidsville.
