ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Colin Gray, who was found guilty on more than two dozen charges related to the deadly 2024 mass shooting at Apalachee High School, will be sentenced in late July.

Gray - whose teenage son, Colt Gray, has yet to stand trial on charges of killing four people and injuring nine others - is facing a maximum of 180 years in prison.

On March 3, 2026, after less than two hours of deliberations, a jury convicted Colin Gray on two counts of murder in the second degree; two counts of involuntary manslaughter; five counts of reckless conduct; and 18 counts of cruelty to children in the second degree.

After less than two hours of deliberations, a jury convicted Colin Gray on all charges in a trial connected to the mass shooting at Apalachee High School

Colin Gray was accused of allowing his son access to the AR-style rifle recovered after the shooting, as well as a variety of ammunition and accessories recovered at the crime scene and at Colin Gray’s residence.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced July 28-29 at 9 a.m.

Jurors heard two weeks of emotional testimony and saw graphic photos and videos of the shooting, with Colin Gray himself taking the stand on the final day of witness testimony.

Prosecutors said Colin Gray knowingly allowed his son access to firearms despite his knowledge of his son’s unstable mental and emotional condition. They rested their case after showing surveillance video of Colt Gray allegedly carrying out the school shooting.

Colin Gray’s trial was the nation’s second judicial case against the parents of an alleged school shooter.

Jennifer and James Crumbley were the first parents ever convicted in a U.S. mass school shooting case. Their son, Ethan Crumbley, 15, killed four students and wounded seven others at Oxford High School in November 2021.

Both were convicted of four counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each victim killed, and each was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison in April 2024.

Colt Gray has a status hearing on May 28, 2026.
