FAA slowdown impacting local flights

by Stephanie Adkisson

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The FAA is cutting airline travel to help with air traffic control shortages.

Many airports across the country have already started to feel the effects.

Airlines are cutting 4% of all flights Friday and 40 major airports are set to expect cancellations and delays.

Savannah/ Hilton Head Airport won’t be directly affected but will feel impacts from connecting flights.

WTOC has spoken with one traveler who was headed home to Arkansas her layover in Chicago was delayed and the airline had to rebook her trip home

“I was expecting the delays because my friends family who i came to visit my best friends she and her mom and dad were sitting here telling me like hey keep track of this delays are happening,” said Lena Watson, traveler.

WTOC have continued to speak with passengers flying in and out of the airport and many have been affected in some way from either being cancelled or being delayed.

By the end of the week that 4% of flights being cancelled will jump to 10% and potentially climb even higher.
