Dwight Phillips Jr. scores first touchdown of UGA’s season as Bulldogs take early lead vs. Marshall

ATHENS, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Georgia Bulldogs opened their 2025 campaign with a 45-7 win against the Marshall Thundering Herd in Athens on Saturday, and UGA wasted no time getting on the board.

Running back Dwight Phillips Jr. rushed the ball in from 17 yards out with around nine minutes remaining in the first quarter.

It took the team just eight plays to drive 70 yards down Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium.

Quarterback Gunner Stockton completed a 25-yard pass to incoming transfer Zachariah Branch, setting up multiple rush opportunities for Stockton totaling 21 yards before the touchdown run.

UGA held Marshall to just six yards on their first drive.

The Bulldogs host Austin Peay next Saturday before heading to Knoxville for a Week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers.
