Community members push back against Pooler warehouse project
POOLER, Ga. (WTOC) -Community members in Chatham County are pushing back against a warehouse project recently approved by Pooler City Council.
The council signed off on a plan to build a warehouse near Tom Triplett Community Park.
The group Friends of Urban Nature hosted a walk Sunday morning along the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Trail, giving residents a closer look at the area that could be impacted.
Organizers said the goal was to get more people engaged by showing them what’s at stake.
They said they are concerned the development could harm the park’s natural environment and surrounding wetlands.
“You’ll get increased truck traffic, which increases pollution, noise pollution. It will make the environment inside the park just a lot louder,” said Peter Van Brussel, an organizer with Friends of Urban Nature. “They’re going to clear out a lot of forest and cover a lot of wetlands to build this warehouse complex. And it’ll... just be a travesty to the nature.”
Organizers said they plan to continue fighting the project.
