COVID cases on the rise in GA, SC

by Stephanie Adkisson

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - COVID-19 cases are rising in Georgia and South Carolina. In the month of August there are projected to be 1,000 positive cases in Georgia, but doctors might be more focus on another virus.

WTOC spoke with physician Timothy Connelly who told us there is a rise in COVID cases, but that is expected at the end of the summer with people gathering inside and school starting- but what he fears is something else.

“I will say there is a growing concern of the avian influenza and the impact that they could potentially have especially since some of them are a little more virulent,” said Connelly.

This is otherwise known as the bird flu, Connelly tells us he is more concerned with these viruses because they are more likely to cause more severe illness than previous strains.
