Brunswick ranked among worst U.S. cities for internet access and cost
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (WTOC) - A new national study has placed a spotlight on internet challenges in one coastal Georgia city.
A 2026 report from HostingAdvice ranks Brunswick as the fifth worst small city in the U.S. for internet access and affordability, based on factors like cost, speed, and availability across nearly 300 cities.
Researchers say internet quality often depends on location, with gaps affecting access to jobs, education, and everyday services. Nationwide, about 40% of Americans report dissatisfaction with their service.
While multiple providers serve Brunswick, access to the fastest and most reliable options remains limited. Fiber service is only available in parts of the city, leaving many residents relying on slower or less consistent options like cable, DSL, or satellite. Cost and reliability remain key concerns.
Experts say Brunswick reflects a broader national issue. Limited or expensive internet can restrict access to remote work, telehealth, and online learning, especially in smaller communities. The study points to a widening digital divide between areas with strong infrastructure and those falling behind.
