Autopsy: 19-year-old found on Alligator Alley died from gunshot
JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A 19-year-old woman found dead on Alligator Alley earlier this month died from a gunshot wound, according to autopsy results.
On May 9 at approximately 10:45 p.m., law enforcement and emergency personnel were dispatched to Alligator Alley after a driver passing by discovered a fire near the road.
When police arrived, they discovered the body of Aveonnah Moore. She was deceased and partially burned.
After the investigation at the scene, the Jasper County Coroner’s Office took custody of Moore pending an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The results of the autopsy revealed Moore’s cause of death is by a gunshot wound.

Donald Smith Jr., 52, of Savannah, Georgia, was arrested on May 13 and charged with murder following the investigation.
The coroner’s office thanked the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, SLED and the FBI for assisting in identifying Moore and locating her family for notification.
