by WIS News 10 Staff

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - On Thursday, South Carolina’s Attorney General Alan Wilson officially filed to run to be the state’s next governor.

In a press conference, Wilson outlined his priorities for governor, including eliminating income taxes, cutting fraudulent and wasteful spending (including at the local level), and enacting universal school choice.

“We’re going to be more proactive and not reactive,” Wilson said. “We’re going to use advanced artificial intelligence platforms to go out there and identify waste, fraud, and abuse. As attorney general, I have prosecuted corruption in state government, but there are times you see waste, fraud, and abuse that does not rise to the criminal level; it’s just bad government.”

Wilson joins a growing list of candidates who have also filed, including Republicans Ralph Norman and Rom Reddy, Democrat Mullins McLeod, and a third-party candidate, Michael Addison.

Rep. Nancy Mace, State Rep. Josh Kimbrell, and Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette are also names that have announced their intentions to run for SC Governor, but have yet to officialy file.
