55 arrested in massive federal drug bust rocking Glynn County

GYLNN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A sweeping federal drug investigation has led to the arrest of 55 people in Glynn County, marking one of the largest drug busts in the region in recent years.

Federal and local law enforcement agencies announced the arrests during a press conference Tuesday, outlining a months-long investigation into what authorities described as a large-scale drug trafficking organization operating in Southeast Georgia.

Those already in custody face a range of federal charges, including drug possession, intent to distribute, and firearms violations.

“This type of criminal activity will not be tolerated in our community,” said U.S. Attorney Margaret Heap. “We are going to continue to pursue anyone who harms people in this community.”

According to investigators, the organization was responsible for distributing dangerous narcotics, including fentanyl and MDMA. The FBI revealed that one of the suspects coordinated directly with a supplier in China, arranging for drugs to be shipped straight to Brunswick — underscoring the international scope of the operation.

FBI Atlanta Assistant Special Agent Brian Ozden said the investigation focused on dismantling the organization rather than making short-term arrests.

“Our goal is not just to put people in handcuffs for a few days,” Ozden said. “It’s to build cases that strike at the core of criminal enterprises and put the most dangerous offenders behind bars for extended periods of time to keep our communities safe.”

Ozden emphasized that law enforcement remains committed to targeting drug traffickers regardless of where or how they operate.

“Whether criminals operate in affluent neighborhoods or in more economically challenged areas, we will hold them accountable with equal intensity and determination,” he said.

Local leaders echoed those sentiments, stressing the importance of community safety. Brunswick Police Chief Angela Smith said residents have repeatedly asked what law enforcement is doing to address crime, and she believes this operation provides a clear answer.

“I believe this operation is indicative of the work being done,” Smith said. “People deserve to feel safe in their own neighborhoods.”

The FBI confirmed that one remaining suspect, a woman connected to the case, has been contacted and is expected to turn herself in within the next few days.
