TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Three people are facing criminal charges after police found 13 children living in “deplorable” conditions in Toledo, police said.

Police were called to the 300 block of Raymer just before 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 for an animal complaint. Once they arrived, they found the children, ranging from infant to 13 years of age, living in conditions that “put their health and safety at risk,” police reports read.

Charging documents said officers found the following conditions:

  • Children with multiple bug bites on their bodies and multiple insect infestations
  • Human feces on the floor
  • No functioning toilet or shower
  • Animals that were not cared for urinating and defecating on the floor
  • No food stored in the kitchen

Police went on to say it appeared the children hadn’t been bathed in days.

The three people arrested were Angel Lambert, 32, Cassandra Lambert, 27, and Angel Oliveri, 28. Court records show they faced a judge Monday morning and were released on their own recognizance.

They were also court ordered not to have any contact with the kids.

Authorities contacted Children Services, which made temporary living arrangements for the kids. A spokesperson for the agency said its team members are continuing to assess the situation and are looking out for the long-term safety of the kids.

A family member of the children told 13 Action News the kids are now with another family member, adding that they’re fine and now being well taken care of.

The relatives went over the house on Raymer on Aug. 11 to begin cleaning the place up.
