COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina voters turned out in record numbers on the first day of the early voting period on Tuesday.

The South Carolina Election Commission said 32,000 ballots had been cast as of around 1 p.m., the highest single-day total for a statewide primary election since June 2024.

Final numbers are expected to be published on Wednesday.

Voters headed to the polls just before a debate in the South Carolina Senate over whether to alter the state’s congressional districts. That measure ultimately failed, meaning all elections for June 9 will continue as scheduled.

Early voting in South Carolina continues through June 5. Click/tap here for more information.
