Darline Graham wins GOP primary for US Senate

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Sen. Darline Graham has won the Republican primary as South Carolina took another step toward electing its first new United States Senator in over a decade.

Graham defeated Rep. Ralph Norman in Tuesday’s runoff election.

“The past few weeks have been an unbelievably challenging time for our family, but you know what? We did it,” Graham told supporters on Tuesday.

Graham was appointed to the Senate by Gov. Henry McMaster following the death of her brother, longtime Sen. Lindsey Graham, in July.

“Our victory would not have been possible without you and we are truly grateful,” Graham said of her brother.

She was also endorsed by President Donald Trump, dating back even before she was formally appointed to the Senate. Trump made a notable trip to Myrtle Beach to rally for Graham last Friday.

Graham will now face Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews and other candidates, including Libertarian Kasie Whitener and the Constitution Party’s Mark Hackett, in November’s general election.
