Georgia US senators call out President Trump ahead of Thursday night speech

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Both of Georgia’s Democratic U.S. senators are condemning President Donald Trump’s priorities ahead of his Thursday evening prime time address to the nation.
On Tuesday, in comments to the White House press pool, the 47th president confirmed his speech will pertain, in part, to voting machines, adding it will be “really, really big news ... it doesn’t get bigger.”
Trump has long asserted his reelection loss to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020 was because of voting irregularities. Biden became the first Democrat since Bill Clinton in 1992 to carry a deep Southern state - specifically, Georgia - in a presidential election.
“Donald Trump’s spiral continues,” U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff said on social media on Monday. “The failed president, pocketing billions as he drives up prices, is afraid to lose the midterms. So he will reheat debunked election conspiracy theories and tell bizarre new lies to deny his 2020 defeat and attack voting rights.”

Ossoff is up for reelection this year, facing U.S. Rep. Mike Collins in one of the nation’s most watched midterm elections. Georgia is a must-hold state for Democrats if the blue party has any chance of retaking Senate control after the elections.
Ossoff is also the only U.S. senator up for reelection in a state won by Trump two years ago when he retook the Oval Office.

Warnock, elected in 2022, is not up for reelection this year, but has been mentioned by national political commentators as a possible presidential contender in two years.
Donald Trump is at war with our democracy and Georgia is ground zero.

But this is John Lewis’ Georgia. We are not intimidated. We are not moved.
Mr. President, instead of attacking our democracy, why don’t you do something about the high cost of gas, housing, and health care?
Last week, while meeting with students and touring technical training programs at Columbus Technical College, Warnock brushed aside a question about any White House run and emphasized his current role.
“I remain deeply honored to represent the 11 million people of Georgia,” he said. “They hired me to work for them.”
